Jacqueline Kennedy was a role model because of the beauty, intelligence and class that she brought to the role of First Lady. She showed an interest in many areas of the arts, including opera, ballet, Shakespeare and modern jazz, which inspired a national attention to culture which had not been previously displayed by any other First Lady. She was able to maintain the privacy of her family, and her three children were always her first priority. She brought awareness to countless Americans. Even in times of tragedy, including the death of her newborn son, Patrick, the assassination of her husband, and the murder of her brother-in-law, she was able to maintain a self respect and demeanor that set an example for women across America. Her strength and dignity was often carried with a radiant smile.
